  • MEMORIAL DAY

Today hubby and I are going to complete some projects here around the house to hopefully make it more sale-able ( Is that a word?) Then church  as usual, in the morning. Tomorrow evening my cell group is joining with the men's group that meets on the same night we do for a Fifth Sunday Fish Fry. We are expecting about 60 people for Catfish and all the trimmings. Monday we are planning to just stay home, and grill some burgers. Hopefully Moma and Daddy will feel like coming over to join us.

For most of us, unless we were part of a military family, this weekend is just another chance to be off work, go to the lake, or have friends and family over for a barbeque. But do you know why we fly 'Old Glory' this weekend? I think this quote from Ronald Regan puts it all in perspective rather nicely:

"It is, in a way, an odd thing to honor those who died in defense of our country in wars far away. The imagination plays a trick. We see these soldiers in our mind as old and wise. We see them as something like the Founding Fathers, grave and gray-haired. But most of them were boys when they died, they gave up two lives -- the one they were living and the one they would have lived. When they died, they gave up their chance to be husbands and fathers and grandfathers. They gave up their chance to be revered old men. They gave up everything for their county, for us. All we can do is remember."

  • With the current conflict going on so many people are sour against our government and the armed forces. What amazes me is how our men in uniform can all of a sudden become the enemy...amazing.

I salute your Son and husband for their service to this great country of ours. :)

Hmmm, a catfish fry. Sounds yummy! :)

  • When my two oldest brothers served during the Vietnam conflict it was that way. Only military families seemd to "get it." The were both carreer airmen. Left home while I was still in grade school. My Daddy was in Europe during WWII and saw first-hand just how depraved man can get. He saw the belts and lampshades made from human skin and may other unspeakable things. (But hubby never served in the military because of his bad knees.)

We grew up respecting authority, our president and governor (no matter whether we LIKED his politics or not), soldiers, policeman and firemen. We proudly flew the flag on national holidays, and got tears in our eyes when they played the national anthem at ballgames. We thought everyone did.... Until we grew up.

  • Good to hear from you.  I am having fun just browsing my way around Xanga.  I hope you are having a great holiday weekend also.

If you can, tell your son that my family admires and prays for our military guys EVERYDAY.  We have learned to pray for all in a position of authority jsut as you stated.  I never really knew what all our founding fathers went through for us to be free.  After reading a few of David Barton's books, it makes you appreciate EXACTLY what this country stands for and our freedoms.  Which NONE of this would be possible without our proud, loyal, and serving military!  Thanks so much for your son!

    p.s.  Love your song

  • Do you ever watch Arkansas Alive w/ Happy Caldwell on VTN?

  • Hi!  My hubby planted some vinca that we picked out.  It's only a start, but it's something.  We've been busy doing other things and the weather has been yucky, so I haven't even been too motivated to do much yardwork.  So you moving locally?  We're in our 3rd home now that we've owned.  This is the last, we are actually going to downsize next year and have less house/yard work.  I'm actually looking forward to that.  If you use AIM, look me up and say hi sometime:  RayRay714A   Have a good holiday :)

  • Hi that was a wonderful post. I wanted to wish you and you family a wonderful day.

  • You always have such sweet and wonderful things to say.  We know your busy and love you anyway............Are people on xanga allowed to have lifes?  ha  ha.........Again your son is so handsome and honorable.

Have a wonderful week, and good luck on the sale-able jobs your doing.......If it's not a word you should make it one, for it flows nicely.....

    Hugs Steph
