  • THE END IS IN SIGHT

I'm beginning to see the end. I unpacked the rest of the kitchen boxes onto my new shelves yesterday. I still have too much stuff! I have laundry and one last pile of boxes in the dining room to tackle today... mostly of what my daddy always called "sit around stuff". Then I can dust mop and finally unpack the chair pads and matching place mats for the dining room. I am determined to fit into this little house so whatever is left over is going to the women's shelter Monday.

Up till now we have been making do with table lamps. For some reason the overhead lights don't work in the bedrooms or dining room so hubby is planning on running new wire. Tomorrow is his Friday off so hopefully he can finish up the electrical. He still has kitchen and bathroom vent fans to install and overhead light fixtures everywhere but the living room. I have new interior doors and the laundry room ceiling and hallway to paint. We won't even talk about all the leaves in the yard.

Looks like we may be finished by the time our son gets here for Thanksgiving the first of next week. He is taking all the stuff we have been storing for him since he went into the military and most all of the extra kitchen stuff. So when he leaves for Oregon we will actually have a back room that can be used as a guest room instead of a storage locker. It has a patio door so it would be a good place to put a chair and book shelf and use for quiet time. I have visions of  morning bible studies and watching cable tv while walking on my treadmill back there.

Moma was waiting on me to get there yesterday afternoon to spend her bingo bucks. I had lost track of time unpacking and she called to ask me where I was. She will hardly make a decision without me anymore, so I had to do the mad dash to the shower thing. She came home with enough candy to refill her goody drawer and a word search book with 14 bucks left over. We almost always go for a walk while I'm there. She's lost a lot of ground in her mobility. Where she used to be able to walk two laps around the courtyard, now she barely even makes half of one before she is ready to sit in the wheel chair and let me push her the rest of the way. She just gets so short of breath that is all she can do. Several of her friends from church are now residents there too so her social life has picked up considerably.

This afternoon I took her to get her fitted for new glasses and then to Fred's for some toiletries. We got away from the nursing home sooner than expected so I took her with me to the drive through car wash before the appointment. In all her ninety years she had never seen such a thing. She was amazed and enthralled. She giggled like a little girl and kept saying, "I like this!"  She got an excellent report from the optometrist. Her glaucoma and macular degeneration are well under control and he was able to correct her vision to 20/25 with new lenses. Her new glasses should arrive before Thanksgiving. We got her the new bendable titanium frames with just a bit of bling on the sides.

  • My oh my, you have been a very busy lady!  We live in Oregon, so I hope your son finds himself a welcome spot!  It is such a beautiful place, and I realize I may be a touch biased, however...well you know :)

I am glad that you are seeing the light at the end of your more than year long tunnel.  You and your husband have been working sooo hard, I would imagine that a time of rest and enjoying your nest is in order!  Have a lovely weekend, and enjoy the fall colors.

  • My computer refuses to let me reply to your message!! If you did get it, fantastic, because I sent it like 20 times, but if you didn't, feel free to email me: kristen_semke@yahoo.com Thanks!!

  • yay for seeing the beginning of the end! ;)

and hey, though you may be really busy, it's in preparation for a great week next week...and a nice nest for your fam to come home to.

every time i think that you & you husband's remodel skills are amazing...you mention another one! you guys really rock at this! and hey, you can diy...and have to wait on someone else's schedule!

  • Your mom should be proud.  She taught you how to work, clean, cook and do everything you are so talented at doing.  I know you will be SOOOOO happy to be able to just sit instead of working your fingers to the bone every night.  I'm glad your son can take his stuff, some of your stuff and you have a place for all else to go.  Makes a big difference in the clutter level.  Sorry to hear Mama isn't able to walk as far.  Yea for the Bingo Bucks!!!

  • Yes maam you can make that your logo here! hahaha  I'm so glad your mom is doing better and you guys are settling in your house! Yeah for grown kids coming home for the holidays!  Love ya Susan!!!
