  • I'M THANKFUL FOR...

I was tempted to repost my Making Fruit Salad blog from a couple of years ago. This may be my only post this week. Tis the season you know....

The thing I am most thankful for this year is change. Can you believe I said that! After 3 + years of empty nest I think I am finally learning to enjoy this season of my life. At first the house was just too clean and quiet and well... tame. But I've learned that having adult children holds another kind of joy all its own. I am still in shock myself ~ but this will be the first Thanksgiving in over 30 years that I have no pies or cakes to bake. None! My daughter informed me she was in charge of desserts this year. (I hear rumors of a pumpkin and pecan pie.) Also in keeping with what has become our family tradition, she has managed to find some folks who have no family close by to enjoy Thanksgiving with, so I'll have dinner guests. By bedtime tonight my son and grandkitty will be here for the week  and he is going to take me grocery shopping tomorrow. Moma is doing well enough now  (another big PTL) that I can bring her over Wednesday to help with the dicing and slicing... so for the first time in a long time all the meal prep isn't on my shoulders. And we will be feasting in a different house than ever before. What a change!

Right up there at the top of my list of things to be thankful for is being settled in my own house again. It feels so good to be unpacked with "my things about me." I can so relate to Mary Kate in The Quiet Man. I had to make several trips to the women's shelter in order to fit, but we finally did it! And I'm well pleased with the result.

So today I am going to freshen up the back room for my son's arrival, fix lunch for hubby and go see Moma. That is all! After over a month of painting and unpacking I'm ready for it!

  • I'm thankful right with you and so pleased your life is settling down so to speak!  Meagan flies in today too...YEAH!  Tony and I enjoy this time in our lives too....empty nesting isn't so bad....different but not bad and it is what you make it.   I guess it'd be lonely if we'd have let our relationship go..then we'd find ourselves alone with nothing to talk about..but thank GOD we didn't do that!  We have lots of fun still and laugh every day!  Love you!

  • I'm so thankful to have all you empty nest girls to talk with. It sure helps me ajust to this new season in my life.

  • Wonderful... to have some extra help with things.

Glad you are getting all settled in!!

  • I was thinking about your fruit salad recipe just last night!!!  lol  I'm thankful that my friend is settled, Thank you God for being so very faithful to her and her family.  Be with them in this new season of her (their) life.  Enjoy your children and the less is more reality, ie, I have less pies to make so I have more time to spend with my son.

    Love, abs
